An unbeaten century by skipper Biplab Samantaray helped host Odisha draw their opening Elite Group-C league match against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 here at KIIT Cricket Stadium today. However, Haryana gathered three points by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Odisha settled with one point.
Resuming their second innings at the overnight score of 50 for one, Odisha were 267 for seven on the fourth and last day when the match ended as a draw. Samantaray remained unbeaten on 103 (210b, 14x4, 2x6).
This was the sixth First-Class century for Samantaray, who also completed 3,000 runs in this format of the game. His 92-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Subhranshu Senapati helped Odisha overcome difficult situation in the second innings. Senapati contributed 45. Haryana batsman Himanshu Rana was adjudged the man of the match for scoring 164 in their only innings. Odisha will next meet Uttar Pradesh also at KIIT Cricket Stadium from November 12 to 15.
